Prune A Little, Grow A Lot

I love a good analogy…and I love gardening.

I moved house last year and took on the challenge of a new garden – well, an old garden which had been much-loved but had got rather overgrown and needed lots of TLC to get it back to the beauty that could be there.

I’ve spent hours and hours clearing brambles and digging out weeds but the most satisfying bit is actually taking the old plants, particularly the roses, which had grown straggly with very few blooms, and helping them come back to life. By judicious pruning (well, slashing) and the application of plenty of horse manure (my neighbours must love me!) this year the leaves are glossy and the blooms beautiful.

So what’s the analogy? In any business sometimes systems will have got old and tired, they’ve been left to grow, maybe go off in their own direction; they aren’t yielding the best results. In business, as in gardens, as indeed in life, sometimes you need to take a deep breath and cut away the dead wood, to allow the new growth to come through. And sometimes you just need to start again.

Is your finance system like my garden? You know what you want your business to look like, but you can’t see through the tangle of information and you’re definitely not getting the beautiful results you know could be there!

I’d love to bring along my (metaphorical obviously!) secateurs and manure to do some systems landscaping. I can help you get the system which really works for you, so you can sit back and admire the result.
