I think it’s safe to say cloud software is now firmly embedded in our personal and business lives. Even before the pandemic things were changing – and the last two years have moved things forward in ways and at a speed I don’t think we could have begun to imagine.
And that’s good – but with the pace of change, as in fact with any change at whatever the speed, it’s easy to think once you’ve done it then that’s it. You’re there, at your destination, time to sit back and enjoy the view.
But that’s not the case. There are always new developments, and even in software you use all the time there are new features and updates; keeping up to date with that is often the last thing on the to do list.
And there’s the initial implementation itself – maybe done on a tight budget, or in a hurry, so you didn’t get the best experience from the start.
A lot of our work at Bridge Financials now is with businesses who have implemented software, but are beginning to wonder if they’re getting the best from it – or actually know they are not!
Inventory
A classic case is the inventory system, the heart of the business, but not delivering the process and insights the business needs, maybe not integrating with e-commerce platforms or even to the accounts
Accounts
And then the accounts software itself, set up to match what was done before with the same processes, but not being used in a way which gets the most out of it.
Reporting
And of course reporting – are you still exporting from Xero to spreadsheet for your management accounts? There’s so much you can do with reporting within Xero, or by integrating with a reporting package tailored specifically to your requirements – not the requirements someone else thinks you need!
